DSC_0002I know that each of you remember that Christmas or school photo day where you looked like this! I know I do. This week was a momentous week at the Spark Dad household. Both Pork Chop and Skeeter lost a tooth this week and on the same day.

Skeeter had been wiggling his tooth all day in a frantic race to beat Pork Chop in losing his tooth.

So while Pork Chop and I were at football practice Mama pulled Skeeter’s tooth with the good old string around the tooth trick.

When Pork Chop and I returned we convinced him that pulling his tooth was a good idea and that he would get to enjoy some tooth fairy money. I pulled out the Flip Camera and began video taping thinking that it would be very cool. So we wrapped his tooth and Mama pulled the string. It tightened up and slipped up around the gum but did not pull the tooth! As you can guess by now the death shrill began and Pork Chop was in full tears! It was terrible. Off with the camera!

We began icing the tooth so that we could pull without as much pain but finally decided that Ora Gel was in order. I was off to the store. On the way back I got a call saying that the tooth was history. Uncle Dee bribed Pork Chop with five bucks if he left Mama pull the tooth.

So I would say that Pork Chop made out like a bandit!  – Spark Dad

DSC_0028 This year our little Pork Chop has begun playing tackle football with our local youth football league the Patriots. Pork Chop plays on the pee wee team which is 5 and 6 year olds.  Each age group has their own team.

They are a top notch program. The practices are tough but very effective and organized. The coaches are professional, caring and dedicated. The facilities are the best in town. Our little team had worked hard but had a 0-4-1 record until two weekends ago when we played our arch-rival the Hurricanes. We beat their socks off on their home field. 3 – 2. Way to go Pee Wee!

I am disappointed however in one of the other teams that we played two weekends ago.

During the Junior game a fight broke out among the coaches. Apparently there was a scuffle on the field between two players and a Patriots coach broke up the fight. Then the Hurricanes, the opposing teams, coaches ran onto the field and began fighting with the Patriots coaches.

At one point you see a Hurricane coach run up and blindside a Patriots coach in the back! This is not appropriate behavior for a coach! Grow up!

I wish I could see the attacking coaches face so I would know never to interact with him. But unfortunately I will have to walk around town and maybe run into that monster.

You can see the video here.

Lets hope that these coaches and young men learned a valuable lesson that acting like idiots is NOT appropriate behavior!

Pack Meeting Day

Oh my goodness! Today was absolutely crazy. As most of you may know I am the Committee Chair for a local Cub Scout Pack. Our Pack has grown quite a bit this year. We have added somewhere between 25-30 Scouts since May. There is a huge difference between 60 and 30 kids.

We had our first official Pack meeting tonight and I would guess that we had about 35 kids and their families there. It makes for quite a bit of chaos. It is very hard to get people and Scouts quiet. But the meeting was a success!

DSC_0040 Pork Chop, now in 1st grade, received his Bobcat badge which is the first rank in Cub Scouts. He got his face painted in yellow, red, white and blue paint and seemed to have a great time.

We sent these kids through the Bobcat Trails, which I dreamed up with Skeeter’s help. The kids had to go to 4 “value” stations such as trustworthy, clean, kind and brave. They did small things such as walk through a dark area with trees or help another Scout up that fell down. The young men seemed to have a great time and took it seriously. I hope that he remembers the ceremony and the things he learned.

On other news Chevy Truck month is about to start. I am very excited that I will be participating in the advertising campaign with Chevy by driving a truck for the month. I will be going on “missions” and talking about the truck a lot that month. Hopefully there will be some interesting things to talk about.

The arrival of truck month is just in time. Cool weather is hitting and we have our first Cub Scout camp out this weekend. So I will get to use the truck to load up camping gear!

I look forward to showing all of it’s great features.

There are several events in the upcoming month that I will be using the truck for such as a Cub Scout camp out on the 1st of October.

I promised a post on the nuances of teaching CCE and I am almost done with it. I will have it out soon.

For now I must get ready for Skeeter and Pork Chop to get home!

See ya!

Back in the Saddle

Spark Dad lives! It has been a while. My life got a hair busy and out of control, but the car is back on the road. Now life has not slowed down any but at least I have my schedule and calendar under control.

Look for another post in the morning that I am working on tonight regarding my experience as a CCE teacher. For non-Catholics that is a Sunday School class  : )

See ya!
